See Yourself As God Sees You

Psalm 8 (ESV)

To the choirmaster: according to The Gittith. A Psalm of David. 1 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. 2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants, you have established strength because of your foes, to still the enemy and the avenger. 3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him? 5 Yet you have made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. 6 You have given him dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under his feet, 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the beasts of the field, 8 the birds of the heavens, and the fish of the sea, whatever passes along the paths of the seas. 9 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

What an awesome nine verses. LORD, help me to understand what You're saying through David in this passage. Verses 1-3 so magnificently proclaim, "How awesome You are Oh God!" Your creation is so amazing. So if the creation is so jaw-dropping awesome, how much more majestic and glorious must be the One who created it all!

Then David goes on to point out to us what You think about us; about mankind. You really do think about us and care about us. Though we have so sinned against You and deserve nothing but hell - "everlasting destruction prepared for the devil and his angels," [You love us so much that You sent Jesus to suffer and die so that we could be reconciled to You.] Here in Ps 8 we see that you created us to be Your stewards over creation. We have such an amazing roll to play, having dominion over the other parts of creation. We get to be your care-givers on earth.

LORD it seems to me you have much higher thoughts of me/us than I do of myself. I pray that You would bring my thoughts of You and my thoughts of mankind/myself into conformity with You Word. Help all of us to realize what You have created us for. Help us to be continually seeking Your Presence and Power and Wisdom to do all that You intend for us to do each day.

I love You, LORD.
